1/4/1901: Superintendent's report: With reference to Miss Wessels who has been acting matron to the hospital, this lady carried out her duties to the entire satisfaction of the officers controlling the camps prior to my arrival, and, although she is not a certificated nurse, I have on the recommendation of the SMO retained her services in her former position a 5/- pd;
If this lady had not been appointed matron previous to my arrival I should not have considered her capable of fulfilling the responsible position she now holds.

13/10/1901: Wessels to CSRC: left camp to nurse Col Woods wife but would like to return to camp nursing. Asks about vacancies. Sent to Brandfort.
14/10/1901: ? To CSRC: Described as an excellent nurse

22/10/1901: telegram, Superintendent, Kroonstad to CSRC: asking him if he will engage Nursing Sister Wessels for duty here. Correspondence from his SMO posted;
Pencil reply: No. He can give her temporary employment at Brandfort.

11/12/1901: Martha Deane to CSRC: Hands in resignation, to leave as soon as possible. You will remember I was sent here temporarily as I have been told that uncertificated nurses are no longer required in the ORC camps I think it will be advisable for me to leave.
