Notes:19/7/1901: In early hours of morning a marquee caught fire; occupied by number of refugees just come in; marquee was totally destroyed & 1 child died. All belongings also destroyed. Fire started when Mrs du Preez lit a Boer candle to feed her baby, must have fallen asleep, candle burnt down & set fire to marquee.
