Notes:26/12/1901, Jacobs, Cape Town to DA: Asks for a testimonial. DA had told him that, prior to the adverse report made by Dr Kendal Franks, you had no reason to complain of my management of the Brandfort camp, so trusts he will see fit to comply with his request.

30/11/1901: Telegram: Kendall Franks, Brandfort to Comfort: Whole camp wants organisation badly send a new supt. Bowen can enstal him and give full instructions. Clothing, blankets, beds badly needed.
30/11/1901: Telegram: Cole Bowen to Comfort: Dr Kendal Franks recommends new supt. I suggest Hemans being sent from Norvals Pont.
3/12/1901: CSRC to EC Jacobs, Marine Hotel, Durban: Informs him that in accordance with instructions from DA, compelled to dispense with his services. Allows him a month's salary in lieu of notice.
12/12/1901: Jacobs, Brandfort, to CSRC: Reporting his return.
14/12/1901: CSRC To Jacobs, Brandfort: It appears you never received my letter dated 3rd December addressed to the Marine Hotel, Durban Natal, intimating that His Honour the DA had dispensed with your services, but he now directs me to notify that he is prepared to offer you the post of Assist Supt at £300 a year in another camp; in the meantime to remain at Brandfort till the new supt arrives.
Dr Kendal Franks reported you camp in a disgraceful state.
As regards the people, you have never seen after their comfort, some had practically no clothing, others had clothes made of blankets.
A new site to the south east has been decided on for your camp and the situation approved of by the military authorities.
Please take steps to begin a gradual removal to the new site, provided arrangements can be made for drinking water.
There are four dams on the new ground selected. The water should not be fouled but drawn from them for washing purposes.
