Camp History
Name:Harrismith RC
Date departure:1/5/1902
Reason departure:dismissed with breaking up of camp; thanked for good work
Date appointed (as staff):11/1/1902
Notes:20/12/1901: MB to CSRC: Applying for post as additional doctor at Harrismith camp. Is aware that a doctor has just been appointed but there is at present a great deal of sickness in the camp. Under the old government he was DS for Vrede and there are many of his old patients in the camp. He has been in military service attached to the RAMC for twelve months, having just resigned as does not wish to trek again. Is living with his family in Harrismith.
Nd: MB to CSRC: has received wire on Saturday. Attended in the camp this morning and wired accepting the appointment on condition that he can live with his family, having a house in Harrismith. Will attend camp each morning at 10 t o1 and again each evening at 6 pm. Dr Rossiter and Mr Bradley are agreeable to this. Sees no reason why they should not work well together. My former patients were pleased to see me attending. Awaits reply.
9/1/1902: CSRC to MB: Refusing him permission to live in the town. Has made it a rule that all officials of RCs must live on the spot and give their undivided attention to their duties, to which rule he cannot make exception.
11/1/1902: CSRC to SRC, Harrismith: Appointing B as MO at a salary of £500 pa provided he accepts above conditions.
21/1/1902: CSRC to B: Noting that he has accepted appointment with conditions mentioned.
