Camp History
Name:Heilbron RC
Date arrival:02/02/1902
Date departure:August 1902
Reason departure:dismissed because no longer needed
Notes:30/7/1902: Stuart to SRC, Heilbron: Asking for leave, having been in the service for a year, during which time he has not had a holiday. Even after a sever attack of jaundice, with which he was unfortunately laid up in Bloemfontein, he did not get a rest, but was sent up to Heilbron for duty three days after he left the hospital. Feels much in need of a rest, especially now that he is recovering from an attack of influenza; wants September with a pass to Cape Town. Is also out of wearing apparel and wants to go to Cape Town for a supply. By taking a holiday now, he may be able to relieve another medical man later.
1/8/1902: Tregaskis to CSRC: Supporting. In the present state of health of the camp another MO will be required.

Nd, August 1902, Adamson to CSRC: Suggesting that the opportunity be taken of Stuart's visit to Cape Town to dismiss him and reduce the number of Mos in RC; no longer needed as numbers now reduced to 1000. 'As he served with the Boer ambulance and has been regularly employed by the British to the exclusion of men who served with the British, I don't think he will have the least cause to complain.'
Name:Bethulie RC
Date appointed (as staff):17/10/1901
Notes:18/12/1901: SRC, Bethulie to CSRC: Dr Stewart confined to his tent [by illness]

19/12/1901: SRC, Bethulie to CSRC: Reports on the precarious codnition of the health of Dr Stuart. Has appointed Dr Barrett as Acting SMO and the hospital is getting on in a most satisfactory manner since he has taken control of it. Cannot recommend Dr Stuart in his present state of health to remain as MO in this camp, as during the present serious outbreak I must have a medical man fully equal to the enormous responsibility of the work. Understands that Dr Stuart would like to go to Kroonstad as MO, should there be a vacancy for him. He has had a great deal of work and is in a very nervous state of health, and recommends his tranfer. Is not casting a slur on his work in this camp, but he is not a fit man to take the responsibility of SMO in his present state of health.
21/12/1901: Reply: Asks that Dr Stuart come to Bloemfontein where his work will not be so arduous.
Name:Bloemfontein RC

Notes:22/1/1902: Is now convalescent from jaundice; as staff of doctors is now sufficient, what must he do?
23/1/1902: When fit to travel, wants him urgently for Kimberley
