Notes: | 25/10/1901, New Bethesda: applies for post in RC, advised by 'Parvana' to approach CSRC. Is the widow of the late Dr Strickland, since his death 11 years ago has always had the medical gentleman practising there residing in her house. Is not a trained nurse but has considerable experience during these years. Lately had charge of 14 wounded men under the Doctor here for upwards of 5 weeks. Sends references.
17/12/1901: ? To Goold Adams: Asking for a post for her. She is the widow of a doctor, can speak Dutch and is about 30. When French's Scouts were cup up at New Bethesda she took the wounded in and would take no payment. At the time Major Shute was greatly struck by her kindness. Since then anti-English feeling has compelled her to leave her home at New Bethesda and she is presently in PE. She is not a trained nurse but would be willing to give her services in any capacity, at a nominal salary. |
