1/4/1901: Superintendent's report: Is a painstaking and exceedingly hard worked officer, and Superintendent greatly values his services. He is moreover respected and holds a considerable amount of authority amongst the refugees.

7/5/1901: telegram: superintendent, Kroonstad to CSRC: Dr van der Wall today tendered his resignation; wants to leave tomorrow;
7/5/1901: Reply: Can't leave until replaced.
8/5/1901: Reply: consents to remain for 2 days until your receipt of correspondence; considers the engagement a daily one.

3/2/1902: vdW to CSRC: As health of camp is now improving every day, and as the work can safely be done by the 3 Mos now here, asks for a month's leave; has been suffering from chronic rheumatism lately, wants to go to sanatorium at Caledon to use the hot bath; also wants to go to HermanusPetrusfonteyn on Caledon coast for sea bathing. Has been a year in the camp with never a day off duty, except for illness.
7/2/1902: CSRC to Secretary for Permits: supporting request and asking for a permit.
Pencil Note: CSRC has selected him [or someone else from Kroonstad?] as SMO at Uitenhage at £600 pa.
5/3/1902: vdW to CSRC: Pleased to give up leave to serve him and thanks him for rise in salary. Can easily spare a medical officer if you are short handed as the work is such at present that 3 Mos can do it.

31/12/1902: CSRC to SRC, Kroonstad: Asking for confidential report on vdW.
7/1/1903: Reply: Held post for 12 months as SMO. Was most conscientious in carrying out his duties and cannot speak too highly of his services. His constant attention to his duties and good tact in the management of his department gained him the respect of all, both staff and refugees.
