No date given; Owner: J van der Merwe; this man, in September, 1900, was Commandant of the Krugersdorp Commando, and lived in the Hekpoort Valley, retiring into the Magaliesberg when a British force approached; his men never offered organised resistance, but sniped scouts from the hills; he was warned that if sniping did not cease in the Hekpoort Valley  his house would be burnt; no notice was taken of this warning, so after a fortnight the house was burnt [Source: Cd 524: p.17]

No date given; Owners: T Kruger, A Cronje; these men shot two unarmed men of Kitchener's Horse while talking to Mrs Jennings, wife of H Jennings, Hekpoort, so their houses were burnt [Source: Cd 524: p.18]
