Notes: | Owner: van Housan; certain burghers, residing on Schurveberg Farm, west of Pretoria, after availing themselves of the privileges of the Field-Marshal, the Commander-in-Chief's Proclamation No 1 of 1900, were discovered on two separate occasions contravening para. 2 of the said Proclamation, in that (1) on or about the 17th July, some of them were discovered concealed and armed in the farm premises; (2) in that on or about the 26th inst., when certain soldiers of Her late Majesty's Forces were in the act of purchasing bread from the women living on this farm, they were treacherously fired on by a party of burghers concealed within the premises [Source: Cd 524, p.19] |
