Scope:This collection is a record of the interests and activities of Dot Cleminshaw in passionately defending the rights of ordinary South Africans under the Apartheid government over a period of more than thirty years. It consists mainly of newsclips, material from various groups and organisations in which she was involved, letters to the Press, letters challenging officialdom, letters garnering support for various causes, as well as personal comments on a variety of issues.The collection has not been rearranged in any way, as the arrangement reflects the way in which she went about collecting material. Thus, newsclips, letters, minutes have not been sorted into separate categories or into strict chronological order, but retained in their original categories. Black Sash records include correspondence, reports, minutes and newsclips on the Township Liaison Project from 1986-1988; material on the Rural Interest Group form 1987 and material on the Worcester Advice Office from 1983-1984. Although, the Black Sash records are limited, the other material is also on themes which concerned the Black Sash.
