Scope:These records of the Athlone Advice Office, now called the Black Sash Advice Office Archive (BC 1020), should be consulted in conjunction with the Black Sash (Cape Western Region) Archive (BC668). Its files demonstrate the incredible tangle of laws and regulations which have governed the lives of the country's Black people. Interviews with domestic workers, contract workers, applicants for residential rights and squatters re pass laws and other influx control measures under Apartheid. Material re Crossroads and other squatter areas, surveys, interviews, list of houses and occupants, court cases.
