Historical Notes Ritchie: The History of the South African College

p.570:1911 Eric Anderson Walker M.A. appointed Prof. of History (from July 1) Assistant Mr. J.L.W. Stock B.A. (Oxon).Prof. Walker was captain in the Cape Garrison Artillery

1914 Prof. Walker called out for service.

1915 Prof. Walker released for a time from military duties and resumed work at the college in September, but was thereafter called up once more for service.

Mr. H.J. Mandelbrote M.A. (an old student of the College) acted as lecturer in the History Dept. during Prof. Walker's absence, while Mr. Stock was acting Professor.
