De V mss: Registered as a medical practitioner on 22/2/1889, entered general practice in Winburg. Appointed chief doctor of the northern section of the OVS-Ambulans. Was involved in solving the problems experienced by southern division and later, when he had to supply ID documents to burghers he was accused of being uncooperative. Placed in charge of the base hospital in Harrismith in Jan 1900 by by mid March had handed over to Dr Zuurdeeg, and returned to Winburg. [Murray, Letters from a Boer parsonage.]
