12/12/1901: dispenser, employed first at Edenburg RC and then at Heilbron. While dispenser at the latter camp he applied, without knowledge of his superiors, for permission to go to Johannesburg. This he received direct and without giving any notice, resigned and refused to do any more work, causing serious inconvenience in the camp. At the time it was well known that a number of people were using employment in the ORC as a stepping stone to getting to Jbh. The CSRC decided to make an example of this man and sent him to Cape Town. The DA considers he has no claim for further pay.
