1/4/1901: Lizzie Strachan to CSRC: 'I have just heard from the lady I left one of my girls in Durban with, that the child is fretting herself ill. She has never been other than tenderly cared for and feels the change. I do not know whether you have a wee girl of your own or not but if you have I am sure that you will grant my request viz. that you grant me a pass for the child to join me here. I amy state that we have lost money, home and everything, have five children, three of whom are in Scotland at school, the other two in Durban. During our enforced stay in Durban the climate tried the girl most severely, but the boy is a hardier type and was able to resist it. We are British refugees from Johannesburg, and surely our own Government will grant my request to save the health of a little British subject, when it does so much for the Boers. Girlie 11 years. . . If you grant me my request, you need not fear that I will neglect my duties.'

7/9/1901: Thanks CSRC for granting her a month's leave. Her girlie is better. Also asks for pass for her youngest girlie, Ina, to return to Kroonstad with her; she will in no way deter her from her duties; she is 12 and fairly well, only seedy from her long stay in Durban. 'As I have told you, we are Johannesburg refugees have lost everything, and while my husband's 5/- a day can keep the two boys, my £10 will kep the two biggest girls in the Convent'.

24/1/1902: E Strachan to CSRC: Applying for permit to go to Roodepoort, her home being there.
25/1/1902: CSRC to Secy Permits: Asking for permit for her to go to Krugersdorp, Transvaal, with her child. Her husband is dangerously ill and wants her to join him. Has been in his employ for 10 months, done work thorougly and honestly.
