Understands from wire that appointment is for Bloemfontein RC; hopes such an appointment is not necessarily associated with great discomfort or hardships from camp life. Reason for asking was a recent letter in the BMJ by a civil surgeon in charge of a refugee camp. Leaving tomorrow by train.

9/12/1901: Pearce to CSRC: Finds his wife is very anxious about plague which appears to be spreading; must return to Mossel Bay, can't take up appointment.
