8/1/1902: LG Martinson, PMO to SRC, Brandfort: About a week ago there were many complaints from the part of the camp under Dr Gunn's care. I spoke to him about it, and he told me that in future he would take better care. Instead of this, there are every day serious complaints from the people. The camp matron is complaining too; so is the dispenser. In the hospital he seems to take no care of his patients. He is in charge of only three marquees and two bell tents, but it seems as if he forgets all about his patients. In fact he gives the impression as if he is not responsible for his actions, although I do not think he is of intemperate habits.
9/1/1902: Asst SRC, Brandfort to CSRC: forwarding above. Dr Gunn's behaviour is decidedly most extraordinary. Fully agrees he is not responsible for his actions. Personally I am convinced that he is neglecting his duties, and consequently request his dismissal.

10/1/1902: C Gunn to SRC, Brandfort: Re dismissal. Thinks there must be some mistake as I have always [?] my duties most [?]. My surgeon in charge is not well with his duties but I have always discharged my duties as I know them. [Very messy handwriting.] |
