Notes:22/5/1902: CSRC to Superintendent, Heilbron: asking if Mrs Scholtz came into camp suffering from leprosy. 26/5/1902: PMP's report (Tregaskis): She came into camp in November 1900 suffering from what he took to be chronic eczema of the hands which had lasted 3-4 years. Ordinary treatment made no difference; placed her under syphilitic treatment which appeared to be doing good when the section in which she lived was handed over to another MO. Did not see her again until Dr Stuart asked him to see her with him as he suspected a case of leprosy. Found several unhealthy ulcers on her hands, deformity of the left little finger, a nodule on the lobe of the right ear, one on her right cheek, and two on her upper lif, together with some anaesthesia of the right forearm and both hands. These nodules had appeared quite recently. He had no doubt of the case being one of leprosy and reported case to Superintendent. When she was first seen there was nothing in the case to suggest leprosy, since then she had been attended by Dr Spong, Hayden and Stuart; believes what they took to be eczema was the beginning of true leprosy and the disease had progressed very slowly up to now. She suffers a good deal from bronchitis and emphysema and has been constantly seen by the Mos for this reason.
