| Notes: | 14/12/1900: HE Vorster, Burghersdorp to Military Governor: Asks for the release on parole of his brother, taken up in Bloemfontein yesterday as POW. Explains he is absolutely harmless and a surrendered burgher, therefore a British subject.
1 He is born a British subject and was only resident in the FS a few months (8) when hostilities broke out.
2 He was forced to take up arms against HM forces which he did most unwillingly.
3 He surrendered at Kroonstad some 6 months ago, when the contents of Lord Roberts' Proclamation was only made known to him.
4 He remained peacefully on the farm 'Good Hope' District of Bethulie until two weeks ago when he was taken away from the farm for protection to Smithfield, Rouxville, Aliwal and round here to the camp at Bloemfontein as a POW.
5 He gave information to officers of HM troops about the Boer commando which passed the farm a few days previous to his arrest.
6 He is 22 years of age and could do a good deal towards supporting our poor widowed mother.
Prepared to give security if he is released. 'It was a terrible shock to his family when we heard that our Government had taken him as a Prisoner of War.'
