Notes:nd: AM McN to Secy, CO: Arrived in England on 18 July by 'Assaye' from Durban and as I cannot stand the winter in England, shall be glad if you can arrange an indulgence passage back to Africa before end Sept. I caught enteric fever while nursing in the RC Harrismith and had a very severe illness and have not been fit for duty since. However I have benefited by the voyage home and the change. But as the summer this year is so cold and changeable I shall be glad to return in a few weeks time. I was not sent out from Englsnd to the camps but was engaged in the country and employed in the camp from 13/5/1901.
12/9/1902: Not recommended.

Notes:10/12/1901: AM Macneilage to CSRC: Has now been in charge of the camp hospital for 7 months and although, after getting the place into working order and having all the trouble of organising a hospital, etc, I shall be very sorry to leave here, still for various reasons, I am desirous of a change and would be very glad if you could make it convenient to transfer me to one of your other camps.
14/12/1901: CSRC to SRC Harrismith: This nurse has given a lot of trouble in your camp, do you recommend that she be transferred to another camp or be dismissed from the service altogether.
19/12/1901: SRC Harrismith to CSRC: I hesitate to recommend the dismissal of this nurse, as I believe she has very few friends or relations, to whom she could look for assistance; I would sugggest her removal to another camp, to give her another chance, and I think that a few lines from you - stating that while in the service, her duty is to the unfortunate women and children, under her charge, and that a little kindness will go a lot further towards winning their respect and confidence, than curtness and incivility - would have great weight with her - an probably effect an improvement.
24/12/1901: CSRC to SRC Vredefort Road: Sister mcNeilage is being transferred to your camp from Harrismith camp; she is to take the place of Sister Leferbe who has resigned; she is a trained nurse.
24/12/1901: CSRC to Sister McNeilage: In granting your request to be transferred to another camp I must inform you that I have heard you are curt and uncivil towards the patients under your charge, now that is not the feeling you should have for the unfortunate women and children you treat; I suggest that you shew a little more civility towards your patients, by so doing you will get on far better than by being curt and uncivil.
30/12/1901: SRC Harrismith to CSRC: Forwards letter from Nurse Macneilage; leaves matter entirely to CSRC's decision and have no objection to her staying here, if she will be civil to the people, and not make them afraid of approaching her.
Nd: A Macneilage to CSRC: Re orders to proceed to Vredefort Road, finds after communicating with her friends that the vacancy offered will not suit her; asks to remain in her present position in Harrismith until a suitable vacancy occurs.
2/1/1902: Telegram, RM Harrismith to Comfort: Received letter to grant Nurse Macneillage passage to Vredefort Rd Nurse asks to be allowed to stay here doctors Reor and Ralston say she has done excellent work since here appointment please let me know if you allow this.
Note attached: No to go to Vredefort Rd please.

10/1/1902: CSRC to SRC Harrismith: Has received letter from magistrate that Sr McNeilage has been taken ill with fever. Asks to know when she recovers enough to take up her duties, and see that she leaves for Vredefort Road as soon as possible.
