31/12/1901: Sr Fitzpatrick to CSRC: Asking for leave after 6 month's contract expires. Duties have been very heavy and she cannot continue without some rest.
Note: Yes, provided she is willing to engage for another 6 months, but no salary to be paid on holiday til she returns.
2/1/1902: SMO Kroonstad to SRC: She has been ill for past fortnight with cellulitis of the leg and scurvy. She wishes to go to Potchefstroom for a month's rest; she is unfit to do her duty and will need at least a month. Suggest she be allowed to go. Now has 180 patients in hospital and requires at least 1 nursing sister to every 40 and two for night duty extra, besides the matron. Needs at least 7 trained sisters for hospital staff, in addition to 2 for camp. If the 8 marquees and 64 additional beds arrive, shall wat 2 more trained sisters. In the process of getting acclimatised there are always 2 of the nursing sisters who have just come from Europe on the sick list. Encloses the resignations of Sisters Strachan and Heys; want to go and would only cause friction if they are compelled to remain. As Sister Strachan is the matron, asks for another. Has no one competent and able enough to appoint, and would do away with the friction if which is sure to result if appoints someone from the staff here. Urges that he needs at least 5 more nursing sisters.
