8/4/1890 married John Edward Armstrong in Kimberley, who worked for various banks including, from 1/6/1895, ZAR Nasionale Bank. At one stage she ran a boarding house in Pretoria. The marriage was not a happy one and they separated at the beginning of the SA War. They were finally divorced 13/12/1907.

p.7 Initially she worked as a field nurse in the ambulance of Dr Johan Balthasar Knobel, founder and vice-chairman of the Transvaalsche Roode Kruis, and was present at the Battle of Colenso on 15/12/1899.

p.59 She was one of the first two nurses to work in Irene RC.
